Oh What A Long, Strange Trip It Can
Be!
On a truly beautiful day this past March, I felt so lucky to be driving
to the Valley of Fire on the
western side of Lake Mead. I had just spent several days at a staffing
industry conference outside of Las Vegas and was stealing a Friday
afternoon to enjoy the beautiful Mojave Desert that is so foreign to me
as a native of the eastern US. We pulled into a nearly empty parking lot
to take a short walk to an observation point. The view came straight out
of a cowboy movie and led to the question of how did anyone ever cross
this country without a car or a plane?!
As we began our walk, I casually said hello to a couple returning down
the path (the only other people within miles) and exchanged small talk
about the beautiful weather (how true!). We soon learned that we were
both due to return to the New England cold all too soon. We both
were in Las Vegas for a professional conference and enjoying an afternoon of
sightseeing.
I mentioned that I worked in the staffing business with benefits and HR
professionals and was surprised to find that the gentleman worked as a
benefit administrator for a client of BENETEMPS! Not believing that the
world could be so small, I asked his name. Len Wigler had originally
been placed with his current employer as a BENETEMPS
contractor a few
years ago! What are the chances?!
You can imagine our amazement at this random meeting in the middle of,
literally, nowhere and almost 3000 miles from home which proves that you
never know what surprises might be in store for you. After a few minutes
of conversation and agreeing that we had to have a picture to
commemorate this moment of amazement, we each continued on our way, both
of us a bit more aware of just how small the world can be and that you
just never know what lies ahead.
